Tribute To A Great Man

I was told he's was an extremely tough disciplinarian. I wasn't sure of what to expect on my first encounter with him. I braced myself for a turbulent first visit, hoping for the best while not ruling out the worst. Like David, I encouraged myself in the Lord drawing courage from the fact that since I was gunning for his last daughter, surely he must have mellowed down from several of such previous encounters. I'm forever grateful to my elder "Agbogums" for helping to make the path smooth for me.

I finally got to meet the Honourable D O Ojei sometime in 1992, and that visit will forever be etched in my memory as long as I live. He was extremely kind and gentle towards me. He asked about my family and my welfare. He was extremely jovial and friendly.

Today, I celebrate a great man, a man of honour and dignity, a gentleman of the finest breed, a man of deep wisdom and integrity. You gave me my best friend, a priceless asset, and I'm forever grateful to you for raising such decent and godly daughter.

You were more than just a father inlaw to me, you were indeed like a biological father. What I missed in my biological father, having lost him more more 30 years ago, I found in you. You were our pillar of strength and counsellor. You taught us wisdom. You taught us the virtues of hard work and discipline. You taught us to view life from all perspectives and not to make hasty decisions. You were indeed great man, and will forever be missed.

Sleep on papa. Adieu!
